Candidate Examination Handbook

Purchasing an Exam
Please consult the handbook before purchasing or booking any exam.

You must purchase an exam before you can book a time or date to take the exam.

Please consult the latest EnerGuide Rating System Administrative Procedures to confirm that you are purchasing the proper exam for the designation that you are seeking.

If considering the ONLINE exam method, determine if your testing environment and computer meet the hardware and software requirements. See sections 3.2 and 4.7 of the Handbook, and this link to test your equipment: Test it Out.

If considering the ONSITE exam method, be aware of the differences from the ONLINE method, as explained in the Candidate Exam Handbook.
Troubleshooting a Purchase Error
MUST READ: Here are some troubleshooting tips in regard to issues with purchasing.

Please ensure you are using a valid credit card when purchasing. Debit or Debit Credit cards do not work with our system. Moreover, we recommend checking to see if your bank is throwing back the purchase.

Ensure you are booking through a desktop computer or laptop. Purchases cannot be made using a mobile device.

The country must be entered before the postal code and city. If it's not entered before the postal code, it could throw an error because the system won't recognize it appropriately.

We recommend googling your address without the postal code to confirm the postal code listed on google and use that address.

If all of that fails and you are still having issues purchasing:Please attempt to use a previously lived at address. If the owner of the card is a different person, try using one of their previously lived at addresses.

Once the purchase is complete, click on ‘Exams to Write’.

Select ‘Book’ next to the examination in question.

Select a region (city) in which you wish to write and you will be provided with options within that region.

Select the location as well as three date/time combinations for your exam request and submit.
NOTE – you will not be able to choose any date sooner than five business days from the day you are entering this request as the testing site needs time to coordinate this request.

At this point the request will be reviewed by the testing site for availability. Once the date/time combination has been confirmed, you will receive a final booking confirmation email with the details on the date, time, location and examination particulars. NOTE: If the dates and times you provided are not available by the testing centre, you will receive an email with instructions on submitting new dates and times.

Meazure Learning aims for confirming a time slot within 5 business days, but occasionally the response time can take up to 10 days when testing centres are very busy. Please allow Meazure Learning 5 business days before contacting for more information.

Once your purchase is complete, click on ‘Exams to Write’.

Select ‘book’ next to the exam in question.

From the New Booking dashboard, select 'ONLINE Proctoring'.

Select your preferred proctor language and time zone.

You will see a 3-month calendar; available dates are dark grey. Select your desired exam date to see the available times.
Note: You must schedule your exam at least 72 hours in advance.

Choose a time when you are available.
The times listed are provided in the 24-hour (military) clock. Thus 3:30 pm would show as 15:30.

Complete the booking by clicking 'Submit Booking'. You will receive a confirmation email of your ONLINE booking. Review those instructions immediately to ensure that your computer is compatible prior to exam day.

Changing Your Online Proctored Appointment
If you are requesting a change to your booking within the deadlines outlined in the Candidate Examination Handbook, you are able to transfer the time and date of your booking yourself, by following the steps below:

Login to https://nrcan.ysasecure.com

Click on the ‘Exams to Write’ tab.

Select ‘Details’ next to the exam in question.

From the New Booking dashboard, select 'ONLINE Proctoring'.

Click on ‘Transfer this booking’ button to start a new booking reservation

Select the preferred proctor language and time zone to select a new date from the calendar
Tips to Improve Internet Connection

Use ethernet cable to connect instead of using Wi-Fi

Move closer to the wireless source

Turn off all unnecessary devices connected to the internet during test time

Ensure internet hardware (router, modem, etc.) is up to date

Purchase an internet booster - availability depends on internet provider

Test internet speeds throughout the day to determine when the best time is to test

Use Test It Out feature, other sources like speedtest.net, or simply google “internet speed test”

Test from a location other than home (environment requirements still apply)
Switching Exam Methods
Should you decide to switch from one exam method to another (i.e., from an online exam to an onsite exam, or vice-versa), this is not considered re-scheduling, but cancelling and re-booking.
Missed Exam Sitting
If you have missed your exam sitting, no refunds are provided to candidates in these cases. You will be required to log back into your account and repurchase the examination, then book a new date/time to write again.

As ensuring an honest and fair exam experience for our test takers is crucial to us and our partner organizations for whom we deliver exams, Meazure Learning has implemented a tip line to allow exam candidates to confidentially provide information should they notice unusual behavior at an exam site.
